What is hypnotherapy?Hypnotherapy is a combination of therapeutic practices and hypnosis to aid in the treatment of a client. It is different from traditional talk therapy because of the hypnosis aspect; So, what is hypnosis? Hypnosis is a state of consciousness that is different than our regular waking, interactive state. It is a relaxed & focused state. There are varying levels of hypnosis but it is completely natural. In fact, most people enter hypnosis daily, without even knowing it! (Have you ever been engaged in a song, a daydream, studying, watching a TV show, or in meditation. (Have you arrived to your destination and didn't remember the drive there?) That's because you were in state of hypnosis! Hypnosis really is just a very relaxed, and focused state.

How does hypnotherapy differ from stage hypnosis? While both are similar as the client is hypnotized. Stage hypnosis does not offer a therapeutic benefit, it is done for strictly entertainment purposes. In a private hypnotherapy, these sessions are intended to create a more psychological/internal response within the client. To help them achieve their desired result or healing. Have no fear, I won't make you cluck like a chicken or do anything that you don't want to do... (In fact, I can't! Your subconscious won't actually allow you to do anything you don't want to. See next question.)

How do I get started with trying hypnotherapy?Book a complimentary 30 minute consultation. Where we can chat a bit more in depth about what you'd like to achieve with hypnotherapy. From there, I recommend booking a 1.5 hour session for your initial appointment, to give us time to adequately prepare for hypnosis, and for some discussion & recap afterwards. Sessions are available over zoom or in person.

Can you make me do things against my will?In short, no. I cannot make anyone do anything they do not want to do. You also can't be forced into a hypnotic state either. Instead, you allow yourself to be hypnotized. It is a voluntary altering of your own consciousness, and you are always in control.
-
Will I lose control of my thoughts or actions? No. You are always in control throughout a session. You willing agree to become suggestible to new, helpful thoughts and beliefs that you agree upon prior to going into hypnosis with me.
-
What if I go into hypnosis and can't come out? That's not possible :)
-
How many sessions will I need?Every client is different; and this depends on the complexity of the issue(s). I do my best to create protocols for success to get clients feeling great as quickly as possible. On average, I see clients have amazing success within a handful of sessions.

Is hypnotherapy covered under insurance benefits? Each company is different. I've had some clients able to submit receipts from a session, while some cannot. Hypnotherapy falls under Complementary and Alternative Medicine. I recommend checking with your insurance provider to know if you have this coverage. If not, you may be able to claim it under a flex heath care spending account if you have that benefit. At the very least, you can claim your receipts when you file your taxes. (Hypnotherapy has been SO close to being an approved service for all major benefit companies within the last couple years. My hope is our professional organizations will continue to advocate for full coverages.)
